Lukewarm: No Pilot, No Presence, No Power.
How the church became lukewarm.
“And to the angel of the church in Laodicea write:….you are neither cold nor hot: I wish you were either one or the other!
So, because you are lukewarm, neither hot nor cold, I am about to spit you out of my mouth.”
If you live in the flood plain of fallen human nature, you’d better have a sump pump.
If you need hot water, you’d best have a pilot light in your water heater.
The Church is supposed to put out hot water – folks that know God and are fully obeying God’s Word and can defend it in a cold culture. But, if the church, the water heater, is not lit by the Pilot Light, The Holy Spirit, she’ll quickly turn lukewarm.
No one likes a cold shower, going through the ritual of washing but without result; one can’t get the dirt out of the garments or the grease off the dishes if the water is lukewarm without cleansing power. Lukewarm coffee is, well, only fit to be spit out.
The word “Laodicea” means “people ruling.”
This is in contrast to God’s ruling in the church. The church of Laodicea, the church today, is a church entirely ruled by men, for The Counselor Holy Spirit is not present doing His ministry of leading.
One of the ways the Pilot Light went out has been through the infiltration of “social gospel.” Systematically, the church and other non-profits enjoying tax exemption favors, have compromised their missions, their messages, and their messengers through the charms of economic rationalism.
“Well gee, we could get more money if folks could just get the tax deduction.”
“Just look at the Greater Good we could do if we took that federal grant money. So what if there are a few compromises, a few constraints, just look at all the money there is to get “free for the filing.”
“And just think how our generous patron donors would stop giving if we lost our tax exempt status. Oh dear! We couldn’t consider it now, Look at the overhead; we have all these programs to keep running, folks on our payrolls, and all this “good” we’re doing.”….. Or are we?
Who are folks “depending” on? God or man.
“We lose a little bit on each one, but we make it up in the Volume.”
Aiming for volume rather than Virtue has its cost as well.
Forsaking the stance as Guardians of Orthodoxy, standing on God’s Word, the assigned Watchmen fell from the Wall, The Spirit left and there went the Purpose, the Presence, and the Power. As a result, the “need” is even greater.
Weekly we hear of non-profits, 501(c) 3’s and 501(c) 4’s struggling with muzzling, audits, threats and censorship. Caught in a pragmatic backlash from donors in a tug of war as to what these paid do-gooder, ministries, social services, schools, advocacy groups, etc. etc. can endorse, advertise, propagate and perform.
All the while the administrators, and employees juggle hats, qualifying and clarifying, which hat they’re wearing when they message; they are not the only guilty parties of the Lukewarm Laodicean compromise.
Donors are just as guilty.
Donors and wealthy patrons must make it clear that they would still support the Do-Gooder effort, even if the donations were not tax-deductible.
In fact, why not just be a for-profit business?
There is nothing evil about earning a profit. That is Free-Enterprise, and the job will be done much better than by a “not-for-profit.”
These non-profits are earning money, paying employees, providing a service, etc. So just pay them like a business and forget the muzzling, the bowing, the regulations of silencing, the politically correct censorship, and return to a free-enterprise economy that acknowledges God as the Source of this liberty….not those controlling the tax-exemption status.
If this Do-Gooder group is performing a needed service then pay them for it.
Forget the “donor” thing altogether, let’s just get the job done. If that does not set well with you, then perhaps you need to check your motives as to why you “give.”
On the flip side, folks in a for-profit Do-Gooder organizations will be much better stewards of “Real Money for Real Work” than they will for “donated monopoly money, tax deductible virtual funds”, which have little to no accountability, or at best a subjective mush of double speak. …but then again, “it’s just volunteers…and a few folks on the payroll.” Really? Have you seen the payroll for employees of non-profits lately? These folks do not work for free.
For review, recall that Non-profits are the fastest growing sector of employment in the United States and the majority of college students at many universities plan to work for a “non-profit”.
Also recall that this was the Progressive goal of Humanist Manifesto signers, the UN and a host of Liberals, whose efforts are to have NO private property, No private businesses, and only non-profits managed by the Global Central Planners.
“In those days Israel had no king; everyone did as he saw fit.”
“In those days the church had no Holy Spirit; everyone did as he saw fit.”
Lacking the Absolutes of the Holy Spirit, the lines have gone fuzzy or obsolete.
“You say, ‘I am rich; I have acquired wealth and do not need a thing.”
But you do not realize that you are wretched, pitiful, poor, blind and naked. I counsel you….”
Water, water everywhere,
But not a drop to drink.
All because a people
Refuse to stop and think.
Running here and running there
After bread and play and wine;
Never stopping to fall on their knees
And acknowledge The Divine.
So they run, prodded on,
Wretched, poor, naked and blind.
A church in darkness, puffed and proud,
Stirring up the dust~
She does not Salt,
She does not Light,
She knows not what to Trust.
She has not Power because she does not Know.
“…my people are destroyed from lack of knowledge.”
“You are in error because you do not know The Scriptures or The Power of God.”
The visible church, the people who profess God, is in a state of ignorance. They do not know God, His Word, nor is The Holy Spirit leading them. Like the culture in which they dwell, experiential sensory manipulation and entertainment, rather than The Truth of Scriptures runs much of the church.
The Bible is full of warnings regarding this, but hey, if folks don’t study it, they don’t know it.
The answers are there, but will the lukewarm church of Laodicea, led by men, and not by The Holy Spirit, stop, repent and do what He says to do?
I guess that’s up to you…. and to me. So help us God….
“I counsel you to buy from me gold refined in the fire, so that you can become …..” Revelation 3:18
No “non-profit” is going to do what YOU must do and what He can do through a body filled with His Spirit.
For those that are looking for answers, for ways to get The Word of God back into the hearts and minds of their children and their churches, so that The Holy Spirit can light the Pilot Lights, Answers in Genesis has an excellent curriculum. The Answers Bible Curriculum can by used by individual families, a class, or an entire church body.
