Polls: Technology driven Consensus, Designing Politicians and Public Opinion
Which came first, the chicken or the egg?
The Consensus or the Public Opinion?
The Poll or the Poll-itician?
And what’s technology doing to reveal human nature?
“…in the contemplation of a sound and well-informed judgment, their interest can never be separated;
and a dangerous ambition more often lurks behind the specious mask of zeal for the rights of the people than under the forbidden appearance of zeal for the firmness and efficiency of government.
History will teach us that the former has been found a much more certain road to the introduction of despotism than the latter,
and that of those men who have overturned the liberties of republics,
the greatest number have begun their career by paying an obsequious court to the people; commencing in demagogues, and ending in tyrants.”
Alexander Hamilton Federalist No. 1 October 27,1787
It’s that time of year again, when mainstream America is just getting around to checking out who is on the ballot. It is also the time that the designer politicians come forth. There have always been designer politicians. But, akin to progress in designer babies via genetic engineering– technology has also wrought progressive tendencies in creating extremely modifiable politicians.
The gumbees are out again with obsequious amounts of flex, fluff, and fog.
Just like the lack of ethics in designer babies, the lack of candidates who appear immune to modification is shockingly disappointing and eerily reminiscent of the results of the French Revolution. With increasing frequency one leaves a candidate forum recognizing the dangers of the lack of principled Statesmen like Edmund Burke, George Washington, John Adams, James Madison, Winston Churchill, Margaret Thatcher, or Ronald Reagan.
When politicians allow themselves to be assembled like personal toy bears, manipulated by the consensus of the loudest mob, the wealthiest nonprofits, sector controlling non- governmental organizations, the most generous corporations, special interest groups, and the media moguls; rather than God’s unchanging laws, values, and virtues of principled Statesmen– we have the makings of demagogues and tyrants….before, during and after the messiness of the anarchy, of course.
Folks have progressively overlooked the fact of our fallen human nature.
In fact, it is likely the number two error of the Progressive Movement. (Number one is that they attempt to overlook God, entirely.)
“But what is government itself, but the greatest of all reflections on human nature?
If men were angels, no government would be necessary. If angels were to govern men, neither external nor internal controls on government would be necessary. In framing government which is to be administered by men over men, the great difficulty lies in this: you must first enable the government to control the governed; and in the next place oblige it to control itself. A dependence on the people is, no doubt, the primary control on the government; but experience hath taught mankind the necessity of auxiliary precautions.”
James Madison The Federalist No. 51 February 6, 1788
Men are either ruled by internal God linked conscience or by external force.
This “force” is usually not obviously brutal or diabolic. This force appeals to the fallen human nature of man via pride, polls, power, and promises of security; and by subtle sensory shaping habituation and cravings called needs, wants and rights. The shades of gray become comfy as light adaption occurs at low levels of virtue.
“Of the people, buy the people, for the people”
What happens when the people are no longer dependable? And auxiliary precautions have been circumvented?
Polls of counting noses have attempted to supplant the essential constitution of right and wrong. Whether one would call the methods creatively clever or diabolically corrupt, or progressively predictable, depends on which side of right and wrong one stands…or bows.
In a republic that has altered its foundational structure of government, failing to teach its electorate how to self-govern, forsaking the transmission of virtues and values,– one finds the masses increasingly incapable of sound judgment in selecting or designing politicians to represent their best interests. Most citizens today, the products of government education, do not know history, The Constitution, local government nor do they seem to grasp why they should concern themselves with these foundations of liberty.
These folks have largely been indoctrinated to believe we abide in a democracy, a pure democracy, in which the majority rules. Therefore pollsters and fake statistics rule. Many folks cannot even discern the truth from the lies. The presidency has been trans mutated to circumvent The Constitutional separation of powers.
Via Social media, crowd sourcing, linked databases, and entertainment, the technology-addicted populace has been uploaded with ideologies shaping public opinion. The uploaded public opinion shapes the politicians. The public, like the designer politicians, have been shaped to repeat and reinforce the mantras in alignment with a centrally planned economy, the concentrated powers of the Technocratic Administrative State.
History continues to repeat because they burned the books.
“Dort wo man Bucher verbrennt, verbrennt man auch am Ende Menshcen”
Where they burn books, they will eventually burn people.
Heinrich Heine (1797-1856)
The only way to improve human nature is to get God’s nature inside of the human—Not by fashioning more ‘gods’ on the outside.
One can’t have harmony and fair play between individuals; without what C.S. Lewis calls “tidying up or harmonizing the things inside each individual” or without checking with what Lewis calls: “the general purpose of human life as a whole….”
“What is the good of drawing up, on paper, rules for social behavior, if we know that, in fact, our greed, cowardice, ill temper, and self-conceit are going to prevent us from keeping them?
It is easy enough to remove the particular kinds of graft or bullying that go on under the present system:
But as long as men are twisters or bullies they will find some new way of carrying on the old game under the new system. You cannot make man good by law: and without good men you cannot have a good society.”
C. S. Lewis in Mere Christianity 1943
So what does that leave us to do now that we have the Technocracy uploading citizens, politicians legislating, and presidents supposedly leading, based on the “consensus” of peoples which have been conditioned to say what the planners want them to say and do what fallen human nature does? (fall and blame it on someone else.)
- Recognize media, entertainment, and database technology’s traps of shaping citizen opinion by showering multiple lies, fabricated statistics, manipulating emotions, and distractions from established principles. As well as withholding objective truth, by which folks could discern the lies and protect liberty.
- Choose your sources carefully. In order to detect lies you must start by knowing foundational Truths.
Know your God given liberties, value them, and do what it takes to reclaim them in your community, state, and nation. Recognize the whos that are usurping your liberties. Their names are most likely NOT on the ballots. But rather, residing in other chambers, committees, councils, commissions, and cubicles and at your cost.
- Recognize and list the attributes, qualities and characteristics of a virtuous, prudent and humble Statesman.
- VOTE for the best choice.
You still must Vote even if you don’t have a solidly principled Statesman on the ballot…and many of us do not. Keep mentoring the ones you’re stuck with. Help your gumbees to develop backbone based on the principles that secure the liberties God grants…and keep mentoring yourself. And all citizens.
- While simultaneously preparing Statesmen who already possess principled unwavering character, the ones that have God inside already, to be on the next round of ballots. 2016 will come none to soon.
These summations by Russell Kirk in The Conservative Mind on Statesman Edmund Burke are helpful starting points to consider:
“Principle is right reason expressed in permanent form.
Expedience is wise application of general knowledge to particular circumstances.
One arrives at principle through comprehension of nature and history, looked upon as manifestations of Divine purpose; one acquires prudence by patient observation and cautious investigation, and it become “the director, the regulator, the standard” of all the virtues. Expedience implements principle, but never supplants principle.
For principle is our expression of cognizance of Providential purpose.”
Now the ideal situation would be to get God’s nature into all men. But, just as God does not force that, obviously, neither can we. But, we can pray for softening of hearts, removal of blindness, and provide all the helps that would facilitate His truths getting in and lifting up the fallen human nature in each of us;And getting us in alignment with His Purposes.
“I keep asking that The Lord Jesus Christ,
the glorious Father, may give you the Spirit of wisdom and revelation,
so that you may know him better.
I pray also that the eyes of your heart may be enlightened in order that you may know the hope to which he has called you,…”
The Apostle Paul Ephesians 1:17-18
