Intolerant, Offensive, Jealous, Not Dead and Definer of Orthodoxy

Intolerant, Offensive, Jealous, Not Dead and Definer of Orthodoxy

“The saddest aspect of life right now is that science gathers knowledge faster than society gathers wisdom.”

Isaac Asimov, biochemist, prolific author, Humanist Manifesto signer

I must confess, I am a Guardian of Orthodoxy.

Someone has to be. The dangers of deviation become apparent when a visual system no longer detects fixation disparity and no longer directs the brain to fuse the two images into a clear single image providing depth perception.

Since one can’t survive seeing double images for too long, the visual system will learn to suppress the image in the non-dominant eye; and the zone of suppression will increase to the extent that the eye will begin to lose its orthodox, straight ahead, position. Ahh…the makings of a lazy eye, and a lazy people; those that stray from a set of foundational principles, yes—the guard rails, the laws defining right and wrong.

As a Guardian of Orthodoxy, I find myself echoing Edmund Burke, George Washington, John Adams or more recently identified conservatives such as Richard Weaver, Whitaker Chambers, William Buckley Jr. and Russell Kirk asking the questions:

“How do we get these people to value Liberty?”

“How do we get them to want the right things?”

Well, if you’re short on time….the answer is obvious.

–We take it away from them. We remove liberty and choices from them, and make them slaves.

Parents and military academies do it all the time. They remove privileges, denote newbies as plebes, and require the plebes to prove their abilities to handle responsibility, liberty and choices. They must earn their rank and accompanying “liberties.” All the while acknowledging just Who it is that grants those privileges, those liberties, those freedoms to choose.

When cognition is low and intrinsic motivation is not yet verified, external operant conditioning is used to train. i.e. Behavioral “Science.”

For some reason, many of the Protestant Evangelical churches have failed over the last 50 years plus, to establish a creed of orthodoxy, a foundational Biblical literacy for their supposed adherents to Christianity. Most folks have been stuck in the New Testament, advancing do-gooder missions, while sorely lacking the equipping of the essentials of The Judeo-Christian faith.

Notice the Judeo part. For some reason there has been a significant omission of teaching the Old Testament. You know, the portion that takes up the majority of The Scriptures. If you want to learn about God, His workings with mankind and His purposes…you need to study the Old Testament as well as the New Testament.

In fact Jesus, who is God, said:

“Do not think that I have come to abolish the Law or the Prophets; I have not come to abolish them but to fulfill them.

I tell you the truth, until heaven and earth disappear, not the smallest letter, not the least stroke of a pen, will by any means disappear from the Law until everything is accomplished.

Anyone who breaks the least of these commandments, and teaches others to do the same will be called the least in the kingdom of heaven, but whoever practices and teaches these commandments will be called great in the kingdom of heaven.”

Matthew 5:17-19

Obviously, Moral Law (such as that expressly enumerated in the Ten Commandments) and the Principles of Civil and Ceremonial Law are still valid today.

God had taken a bunch of slaves, freed them from Egyptian overlords and pagan worship practices, and then began a long, tedious and frustrating process of mentoring them in order for Him to dwell among and eventually in them. Wow!

One of the very first laws God said to these freed folks was and is: “You shall have no other gods besides Me.”

This was a biggie then, and is a huge biggie now. These folks were coming from a land of idol worshipping, sorcerer employing, meditating mindful awareness promoting, child killing, and prostituting peoples and heading into the very same practices in the promised land of Canaan.

Number one Rule: Don’t worship anything but Me.

“You shall not make for yourself an idol in the form of anything in heaven above or on the earth beneath or in the waters below. You shall not bow down to them or worship them; for I, The LORD your God, am a jealous God, punishing the children for the sin of their fathers to the third and fourth generation of those that hate me, but showing love to a thousand generations of those who love me and keep my commands.”

Exodus 20:4-6

Did they obey?

See how many practices you can find that parallel what Americans and many American “Christians” are doing in our culture today:

“In the ninth year of Hoshea, (722 BC), the king of Assyria captured Samaria (the capital of the Northern Kingdom of Israel) and deported the Israelites to Assyria…

All this took place because the Israelites had sinned against the LORD their God, who had brought them up out of Egypt from under the power of Pharaoh king of Egypt.

They worshipped other gods and followed the practices of the nations the LORD had driven out before them, as well as the practices that the kings of Israel had introduced.

The Israelites secretly did things against the LORD their God that were not right. From watchtower to fortified city they built themselves high places (used for pagan worship) in all their towns. They set up sacred stones and Asherah poles (prostitution) on every high hill and under every spreading tree. At every high place they burned incense, as the nations the LORD had driven out before them had done.

They did wicked things that provoked the LORD to anger. They worshipped idols, though the LORD had said, “You shall not do this.” The LORD warned them through prophets and seers: “Turn from your evil ways. Observe my commands and decrees in accordance with the entire Law that I commanded you fathers to obey…

But they would not listen and were stiff-necked as their fathers, who did not trust in the LORD their God. They rejected His decrees and the covenant He had made with their fathers and the warnings He had given them.

They followed worthless idols and themselves became worthless. They imitated the nations around them…they bowed down to all the starry hosts, and they worshipped Baal. They sacrificed their sons and their daughters in the fire. They practiced divination and sorcery and sold themselves to do evil in the eyes of the LORD, provoking Him to anger.

So the LORD was very angry with Israel and removed them from His presence.”

II Kings 17:6-18

As Americans continue to yoke the gods of science, with the credentialed Canaanites of high places of higher education, (the self-acclaimed cognoscenti),– advancing pagan practices in schools, businesses, healthcare, community centers, social media, entertainment, and even churches; thereby promoting a syncretism of technology, pseudo-sciences, stress management, mindful awareness, political ecology’s environmentalism, earth and animal worship, new age and old age spiritism under the guise of tolerance, Capitalism, and mindmeld globalization practices…one can see that America is particularly ripe for a repeat of history.

Pagan practices such as astrology, Yoga, Tai Chi, Zen, Buddhism, Hinduism, shamanism, along with rampant prostitution, increasing euthanasia, resurgent eugenics, abortion, child trafficking etc. are clearly evidence of disregard for the established moral and civil Law upon which America has been blessed. The Constitutional Republican Democracy is worthless if absent from veneration for God, and appreciation for the Liberties that He alone grants and what He considers orthodox.

We think of Athens (fifth century B.C.) as one of the first examples of citizen liberty in a limited democracy. Yet, when the Athenians prized security and comfort more than freedom; when they looked more for pleasure and what they could receive from government than what they could contribute to the moral character of their society; they lost it all—security, comfort and freedom. *

“Omnes virtutes jacent, volupate dominate.”

All virtues lie prostrate if pleasure is the master.

Robert Boyle (1627-1691) chemist, philosopher, physicist, theologian, and inventor, is known as the father of modern chemistry and one of the fathers of scientific method. Likely, Dr. Boyle is best known for Boyle’s Law, (PV=k) describing the relationship between pressure and volume of a gas if temperature is kept constant in a closed system.

It was Boyle who led chemistry and science from the hodge podge of mystical alchemy to empirical, repeatable, documented experimentation and what has become true investigational science.

“The vastness, beauty and orderliness of heavenly bodies; the excellent structure of animals and plants; and other phenomena of nature justly induce an intelligent, unprejudiced observer to conclude a Supreme, Powerful, just and good Author.”

Robert Boyle was a devout Christian, and with all his other accolades, he only requested he be remembered as “a Christian gentleman.”

Which brings us to the solution for the opening quote, by the prolific science fiction writer, Humanist, and biochemist, Isaac Asimov (1920-1992).

How can societal wisdom keep up with the increase in scientific “knowledge”?

“The fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom,

and knowledge of The Holy One is understanding.”

Proverbs 9:10

Russian born immigrant Asimov stated of his father:

“My father, for all his education as an Orthodox Jew, was not Orthodox in his heart.”

“He didn’t recite the myriad prayers prescribed for every action and

he never made any attempt to teach them to me.”

That, is truly sad— A father who fails to teach his child transcendent truths….and so the deviations propagate.

Thus, the sorry state of affairs in America and the compounding consequences yet to be experienced at the Hands of Him Who is neither tolerant, intimidated or tame…

but, He is Orthodox.
