Human Sacrifice via Technology-Driven Ed, “La Guillotine”
“It was the best of times, it was the worst of times,
it was the age of wisdom, it was the age of foolishness,
it was the epoch of belief, it was the epoch of incredulity,
it was the season of Light, it was the season of Darkness,
it was the spring of hope, it was the winter of despair,
we had everything before us, we had nothing before us,
we were all going direct to Heaven, we were all going the other way—
in short, the period was so far like the present period,
that some of its noisiest authorities insisted on its being received, for good or for evil, in the superlative degree of comparison only.”
Charles Dickens, A Tale of Two Cities, 1859
Human sacrifice in “civilized” cultures is certainly not new. In fact, British historian Statesman Lord Acton (1834-1902) wrote an extensive article, “Human Sacrifice”, published in 1863 addressing the history of human sacrifice throughout the history of mankind. Acton did this to counter a misconception among some intellectuals of the time that held to the opinion that “the practice of human sacrifice could not coexist with a ‘high degree of civilization and refinement.’”
Well worth the effort, and the humility that accompanies the recognition of human nature, Acton details human sacrifice, its origins, motivations, and propensity from pagan religious rites, including those of the Egyptians, Assyrians, Brahmins, Babylonians, Greeks, Romans, East to West, India to Africa, Europe to Americas, barbarian mythology, nature worship to the devout and intellectually religious.
One of the key features of human sacrifice was infant sacrifice: The premise of sacrifice being the notion of the substitution of an innocent infant victim to please a deity or to atone for a recognized omission– the younger the victim the greater the presumed innocence, thus the greater the atonement, expiation, or propitiation value.
Along this line the Greeks, Phoenicians, Mediterraneans, Romans etc. added the systematic violation of female virtue. The progress of the sacrifice of the innocent to the destruction of the innocence, which gave it its value, was strictly logical. Both continued into modernity becoming symbolic of the current Post-Human era … “in short, the period was so far like the present period” that parents, technocrats, bogus philanthropists, STEM workers, politicians, and global capitalists continue their cacophony of sacrificing humans to the deities and despots of technology.
“Technology is here to stay. It will just change the way human beings learn.”
This cut and paste phrase gets parroted from IT personnel, educrats, technocrats, propagandists, economic planners, chambers of commerce and passive citizenry ad nauseum.
Technology will not “change the way human beings learn”.
IT “learning” will only target different parts of the human brain. Digital media screen time, the use of the Internet and super-teacher videos under the guise of “education for 21st Century Careers” targets the lower level portions of the brain. Visual, pictorial, social emotional driven e -learning engages the limbic system and behaviorally conditions the reflexive, habit-forming cerebellum.
Digital media technology driven “education” bypasses the higher thinking levels of the cerebral cortex: the reasoning frontal, parietal, temporal lobes and the storehouse of factual knowledge, transcendent absolutes of right and wrong, good and evil, noble and base, that ought to be compounding in the left hemisphere guided by the executive frontal lobe and spiritual maturation. Higher-level intellectual, moral and spiritual growth develops via human mentoring and secure attachment to parents.
In essence, Technology-driven digital media acts as La Guillotine, severing the restraining, reasoning, thinking, elaborating, self-regulating human being portion of the brain, from the impulsive, emotional, subjective, instinct habituated body below. (Behavioral Science -Pavlov’s dogs, and BF Skinner’s rats, Jane Goodall’s monkeys… Americans on compulsion loops via smart phones, i-pads, hand-helds training nervous animals ready to pounce, push, follow, jump, post, tweet, vote and…..)
America now boasts of 26.3% of youth with Internet Addiction Disorder (IAD), China acknowledges 18% of youth with IAD; Blackberries and smart phones are now known as “CrackBerries” producing empty brains, addicts, no factual memory, Users uploaded with compulsive habits to push a button, jump with a jingle, salivate with a buzz.
Dr. Josephe-Ignace Guillotin (1738-1814) did not invent the guillotine. His part was to urge France’s National Assembly to adopt the “humanitarian execution machine” invented by his colleague Antoine Louis. The proposal was adopted April 1792, in good time for the Jacobin Terror, thereby raising Guillotin to the status of an eponym.
One can only imagine the eponym that will be assigned to those bred for utilitarian purposes, educated by humanitarian execution machines, and sustained by the global technocracy of the Post-Human Era.
We can be certain IT will not be “Human” Beings.
“Along the Paris streets, the death-carts rumble, hollow and harsh. Six tumbrils carry the day’s wine to La Guillotine. All the devouring and insatiate Monsters imagined since imagination could record itself, are fused in the one realization, Guillotine. And yet there is not in France, with its rich variety of soil and climate, a blade, a leaf, a root, a sprig, a peppercorn, which will grow to maturity under conditions more out of shape once more certain than those that have produced this horror.
Crush humanity out of shape once more with similar hammers, and it will twist itself into the same tortured forms. Sow the same seed of rapacious license and oppression over again, and it will surely yield the same fruit according to its kind.”
A Tale of Two Cities, Charles Dickens
Heathen and Christian are judged by the same absolute standard of morality. If human sacrifice is murder, then it is murder whether committed in the name of a pagan sun-god, pagan environmentalism, the name of purifying the Christian religion or in the name of convenience for totalitarian economics.
We, heathen and Christian, are judged regardless of what innovation or “Technology” we employ to sacrifice, destroy, disfigure, corrupt, clone or cripple the innocent victims.
Or utterly remove their humanity.
For Acton, the study of human sacrifice was no mere antiquarian exercise. It was, rather, an attempt to see in full perspective that ultimate human sacrifice and to understand more clearly “the death of that Victim Who could alone take away the sins of the world.”
Human beings or mechanized organisms?
